Helping the Homeless at Christmas: MVIS Gives Back

    • Each year at Christmas, MVIS help to make the community surrounding them a better place. In recent years, we have hosted movies nights at the Ashgate Hospice, consistently sponsored a star and collected for the Clay Cross Food Bank. This year MVIS are donating clothes and food to Pathways to Chesterfield. Pathways to Chesterfield is a local charity to MVIS’ Headquarters in Matlock. They help to assist people in need throughout the year, not just at Christmas. The staff and volunteers at pathways work to ensure that everyone in their community has a place that they can call home. They are helping the homeless at Christmas. One vision and one mission, to eradicate rough sleeping in the community and to help people without a permanent home to get one. With this journey they keep in touch with their values: –
      • Never give up on people.
      • Even when people have lost hope, Pathways provide a safe space and act as a constant mechanism of support providing encouragement, patience, and stability to empower people believe in themselves and work towards what they want to achieve, at a pace that suits them.
      • Being Approachable.
      • Becoming homeless can be terrifying and have a huge impact on confidence. They work in a friendly empathic and non-judgmental way to make it as easy as possible to get support. They really listen to get an understanding of how people are, what they want to achieve and how Pathways can support them with this.
      • Empowering people.
      • Pathways support people to build self-esteem to have the confidence in achieving their goals and making decisions through sharing knowledge, motivational work and encouraging resilience through learning.
      • Respecting people.
      • They work in a respectful way with everyone They meet from the people they support to partnership agencies, colleagues, and the wider network Pathways meet. They support people in a non-judgmental manner and always treat people as individuals. They are open and honest and work in a transparent way.
      • Working Collaboratively.
      • They build strong partnerships to ensure people get the best support to meet their needs. These strong partnerships enable us to advocate for the people we work.
      • Continuously working to improve our service.
      • Pathways are constantly striving to improve their knowledge so that we can continually develop our charity and enable people to improve their situation, using data, research and lived experience.

Helping the homeless at Christmas with these core values in mind

Why Pathways of Chesterfield?

Why have MVIS dedicated their attention to the homeless of Chesterfield? It’s simple.

After one weekend in early November. Commercial and Operations Director, Anne Ashman came into the marketing department after going shopping to Chesterfield and seeing the amount of unfortunate people without homes, she decided to send out an e-mail about helping the homeless at Christmas and what is needed and asked people to come in and donate their clothing.

How Has MVIS Helped?

On the 11th of December Marketing Executive, Ben Ashman, and Workshop Supervisor, Liam Griffiths, visited the team at Pathways of Chesterfield to deliver clothing collected over the beginning of December, Helping the homeless at Christmas.

Our dedicated team collected over 6 large bags of clothing and food for the charity from dedicated team members, this will go a long way to help the charity disperse the food and clothing to people in their community.

The team at MVIS believe it is important to give at times like Christmas when we have so much, and other people have so little. This is why we consistently help charities in their pursuit of helping people who need their services whether it be the end-of-life service at Ashgate Hospice or donating food to the Clay Cross Food Bank.

An Introduction to The Fatal 6

What really separates the best from the rest?

With over a decade of experience operating on the UK’s high-speed road network, we have proven our quality and capability for high-speed roadworks. Quality is an area where a business really has to practice what we preach, and we consistently step up to the plate and deliver in our field.

We practice what we preach by way of our plethora of accreditations that displays its position as the perfect VMS and portable ITS partner for contractors operating on work sites and major schemes across the UK on our high-speed roads.

The importance of gaining such accreditations cannot be understated. In fact, these accreditations are mandatory to be able to supply products and services into the UK’s high-speed frameworks and schemes.

Holding such distinguished credentials guarantees, through independent audits that the correct practices around safety, quality and sustainability are present – crucial elements of working practice in highways. In an arena that can potentially be life-threating with subpar performance, it’s the investment in quality, reflected in industry recognised accreditations that separates the best from the rest.

Here, we take a look at some of the key marks of quality that we hold, meaning our customers can fully #TRUSTINMVIS when it comes to safety, quality, and sustainable practice.

MVIS: Supporting Local Sports and Communities – Sponsoring Jacob Spencer and Beyond

At MVIS, we believe that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is more than just a box to tick

it’s an integral part of our identity. We are committed to giving back to the community that supports us, and this philosophy has led us to sponsor our R&D Technician Jacob Spencer.

Championing Local Talent

By sponsoring Jacob Spencer, we are proud to support grassroots football and provide opportunities for talented athletes to thrive. At the community level, football plays a huge role in fostering companionship, discipline, and physical well-being. Jacob’s passion and drive on the field reflect the values that we uphold at MVIS: commitment, teamwork, and perseverance.

Through this sponsorship, we aim to ensure that local sports continue to thrive. Cromford and Wirksworth Town FC have been pillars of the local community, bringing people together, and we’re delighted to be a part of that legacy.

Corporate Social Responsibility: A Core Value

Our commitment to CSR extends beyond local sports. MVIS has long supported community initiatives, and our sponsorships are just one way we actively engage with causes that matter. For example, our ongoing relationship with Ashgate Hospice is one that’s especially close to our hearts. For years, we’ve contributed to their incredible work, assisting them with signage for key fundraising events such as the Sparkle Walk and sponsoring stars for their annual campaigns. Our team members, like Rob Hinchley, also participate in fundraising activities, like his planned charity skydive to raise funds for this essential cause. Supporting Ashgate Hospice embodies the spirit of care and community that MVIS seeks to foster in every aspect of our work.

Investing in Employee Well-being

At MVIS, we also place great emphasis on the mental health and well-being of our employees. We understand that a supportive workplace is crucial to personal and professional success, which is why we prioritise a culture of openness and mental health support. When employees are happy and healthy, they are better equipped to give back to the community and thrive in their roles. This holistic approach to well-being not only benefits our team but also aligns with our CSR goals—helping us make a positive impact both internally and externally.

A Legacy of Sports Sponsorship

Sponsoring Jacob Spencer isn’t our first foray into supporting athletes. Over the years, MVIS has proudly sponsored local football teams, Car racing and even kickboxers, helping them compete at higher levels. We see sports as a fantastic way to develop resilience, dedication, and teamwork—qualities we value in our business. These sponsorships aren’t just about brand visibility but about strengthening community ties and giving back to those who inspire and energise us.

Looking Ahead

We are excited to continue supporting Cromford and Wirksworth Town FC and Jacob Spencer in the upcoming season.

Whether it’s through our ties with Ashgate Hospice, fostering employee well-being, or empowering athletes to chase their dreams, MVIS remains dedicated to making a difference. Our commitment to CSR will continue to guide us as we seek new ways to uplift our community and support those who inspire us.

At MVIS, we know that our success is only meaningful when we use it to benefit the world around us, and we are proud to keep building stronger, more connected communities through our actions.

Rob Hinchley’s Charity Skydive for Ashgate Hospice

At MVIS, we’ve always been passionate about supporting our local community, and one of the organisations closest to our hearts is Ashgate Hospice. This year, our Workshop Technician, Rob Hinchley, is taking on an incredible challenge to raise a minimum of £550 for this important cause – by completing a charity skydive!

Why Ashgate Hospice?

Ashgate Hospice provides exceptional palliative and end-of-life care to those in need, and MVIS has been proud to partner with them over the years. From providing signage for their Sparkle Walk and High Peak Trail events to sponsoring stars placed outside the hospice in December, we’ve seen first hand the vital work they do for individuals and families during difficult times.

Now, Rob is stepping up to make a difference in a whole new way—by jumping out of a plane!

Rob’s Charity Skydive for a Cause

On the 27th of September, Rob will be taking to the skies in a daring skydive, all in the name of charity. His goal is to raise £550, which will go directly toward helping Ashgate Hospice continue their essential work. Every pound raised will contribute to the care and support of patients facing life-limiting illnesses and their families, ensuring they receive the compassionate care they need.

The Importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

At MVIS, we believe that businesses play a key role in giving back to the communities they serve. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is about more than just business success; it’s about making a positive impact on society and being a force for good. Through our long-standing partnership with Ashgate Hospice, we’re committed to supporting initiatives that benefit our local area and the people in it.

By getting involved in charitable events, like Rob’s skydive, and contributing to important causes, we’re showing our dedication to values that go beyond profits. CSR helps strengthen our bonds within the community, improve employee engagement, and foster a culture of compassion and responsibility within the company. It’s a win-win, as we can both support our local hospice and encourage our team to take part in meaningful, life-enriching experiences.

At MVIS, we know that our actions today can lead to a brighter tomorrow. That’s why we take every opportunity to contribute to causes that truly matter. Rob’s skydive is a perfect example of how we turn our commitment to CSR into action, helping to support the wonderful work of Ashgate Hospice.

How You Can Help

Rob’s challenge is bold, and we believe he can reach his goal with the help of our amazing community. Whether you can donate a little or a lot, every bit counts. Your generosity will make a real difference to the lives of those Ashgate Hospice supporters.

Vehicle Activated Speed Signs and MVIS

In the world of quarry operations, safety is paramount. With heavy machinery, large vehicles, and personnel working in often challenging environments, maintaining safety standards is crucial. One of the key advancements in promoting safety within quarries is the implementation of Vehicle Activated Speed Signs (VASS) and Mobile Visual Information Systems (MVIS).

Vehicle Activated Speed Signs (VASS)

What is Vehicle Activated Speed Signs?

Vehicle Activated Speed Signs, often referred to as VASS, are electronic signs placed strategically within quarry sites or can be trailer mounted to ensure slowed traffic site wide, meaning you can monitor and display the speed of approaching vehicles. These signs are equipped with sensors that detect the speed of an approaching vehicle and display it to the driver in real-time. If the vehicle exceeds the safe speed limit, the sign may flash or display a warning, alerting the driver to slow down. These solutions can also be fitted with Solar Panels, meaning that when strategically placed they can have run times months longer than a pole mounted solution.

The MVIS VASS sign also has the added benefit of ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition), allowing the site to capture the number plate of any offending vehicle.  The online platform allows the safety team to run a report that captures the information, showing the speed and number plate, allowing the team to contact the haulier to discuss the speeding incident with clearly defined data.

Benefits of VASS in Quarries:

  • Enhanced Safety Awareness: By providing real-time feedback to drivers, VASS helps raise awareness about speed limits and encourage adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Reduced Accidents: Speeding is a common cause of accidents in quarries. VASS can help mitigate this risk by prompting drivers to maintain safe speeds.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Quarry managers can use data collected from VASS to monitor compliance with speed limits and identify areas or times where speeding incidents are more prevalent.

The Impact on Quarry Safety

The implementation of Vehicle Activated Speed Signs represents a significant step forward in enhancing safety within the quarry sector. By leveraging advanced technology to monitor vehicle speeds and conduct thorough inspections of data, quarries can effectively reduce the risk of accidents, improve compliance with safety regulations, and create a safer working environment for all personnel.

Conclusion

As technology continues to evolve, so does its application in industrial sectors such as quarry operations. Vehicle Activated Speed Signs Systems exemplify how innovative solutions can address longstanding safety challenges. By investing in these technologies, quarry operators not only prioritize the well-being of their workforce but also contribute to more efficient and sustainable operations overall.

Small Footprint. Big Impact.

Developed back in 2016, the HD Compact  was the first portable VMS of its size available to the UK market.

With over eight years of Research & Development, the HD Compact has undergone significant development since that first version. The latest version boasts many new features, such as integrated solar power, and the clever addition of a chevron frame, perfect for over height work.

Here, we shine the spotlight on 4 of the many aspects that make the HD Compact excel in urban environments.

  1. Small Footprint

As our smallest portable VMS, the HD Compact boasts an impressively small footprint. Urban environments often have limited space for construction work or road maintenance, so when it comes to messaging, how site managers use that space is of critical concern.

With the HD Compact, site managers do not need to compromise on messaging in the same way as they would for static signs. Using web browser or a mobile device, operators can programme or change messaging quickly and easily, creating cycled messages too that can communicate multiple messages using the same sign.

HD Compact VMS

This allows more detailed information to be communicated without taking up any more space, leaving room for other equipment that may help to increase safety, or simply by keeping the site’s area small, reducing the risk to workers, pedestrians and drivers.

  1. HD Display

Whilst this is a small unit, the HD Compact still boasts an impressive 28 x 28 matrix with a 20mm pixel pitch. This allows for the display to show a wide range of messaging and pictograms, enabling site managers to break down language barriers and communicate important messages effectively.

The display also features fully compliant EN12966 red and white dual colour LEDs, allowing messages to contain emphasis and display effective pictograms.

HD Compact

Using bright dynamic signs instead of dull static ones offers an obvious advantage in that messages are clear and stand out more, especially in the dark, which could help to increase safety at any time of the day.

  1. Solar Power

Integrating solar power with our HD Compact was a development that brought it in line with our other portable VMS, making our full VMS range solar powered. Due to the HD Compact’s very low power demands, solar power is a powerful addition to the unit, allowing it to offer highly extended run times under the right conditions.

The addition of solar power reduces the need for battery changes which can be a health and safety issue for any TSCO, having extra bodies on the ground in road works. It also helps cut the project’s carbon footprint too. Reduced battery changes means, a reduced number of trips from our nearest depot to the sign and then back again, minimising fuel use. This could be important for a company’s corporate social responsibility goals, as well as helping to cut down emissions seen in town and city centre’s, increasing safety for everyone.

This clever Solar Powered Compact base can also be adapted to replace the HD screen, with our small CCTV unit making it a truly multi-functional product.

  1. Data Collection Radar

Like all our solar powered VMS, the HD Compact comes integrated with a Data Collection Radar that can collect traffic trend data on time, date and speed.

In urban environments, this can be of great use for planning and safety, allowing site managers to report on levels of traffic around the work site, which can highlight risks and allow them to act on those risks.

HD Compact VMS BaseHD Compact VMS Analytics

Combined with the sign’s messaging capability, the Data Collection Radar makes this unit a perfect solution to deploy in the lead up to works being done, giving drivers warning of the disruption as well as collecting data on levels of traffic, allowing site managers to address risks before work even starts.

If you would like to speak to our friendly team about buying a HD Compact, you can call MVIS on 01629 580 570 or you can email us at: sales@m-vis.co.uk.

MVIS: Championing Wellbeing in the Highways Sector

MVIS: Championing Wellbeing in the Highways Sector

At MVIS, we are committed to more than just creating innovative solutions for traffic management; we are dedicated to the wellbeing of our team. Recently, we proudly participated in our latest “Journey to Wellbeing,” activity.

The initiative is aimed at improving mental health within the Highways sector.  It has provided a great opportunity to foster a supportive work environment, encourage physical activity, and promote mental wellness amongst our colleagues.

The Journey to Wellbeing Initiative

The Highways sector, a 24/7 industry, can be demanding. Often requiring long hours, high levels of concentration, flexibility and the ability to manage stressful situations. Recognising these challenges, the Journey to Wellbeing initiative was established to support those working in the sector. It aims to raise awareness about mental health, provide resources and support, and create a culture that prioritizes the wellbeing of all employees.

At MVIS, we understand that mental health is as crucial as physical health. That’s why we have 3 Mental Health first aiders and embrace this initiative wholeheartedly, encouraging our team to participate in various activities designed to promote a positive mindset and a healthy lifestyle.

The Olympics Quiz: A Nod to Our 2012 Legacy

In keeping with the spirit of the Journey to Wellbeing, we organized an Olympics-themed quiz. This was particularly meaningful for us, as MVIS played a crucial role in traffic management during the London 2012 Olympics. MVIS deployed a 177 VMS on the Olympic Route Network, this ensured smooth transportation for athletes, officials, and fans during the event, and it was a proud moment in our company’s history.

The quiz was a delightful mix of questions about Olympic history, MVIS’s involvement in the 2012 Games, and general sports trivia. The competition was fierce, but it was Sales Director, Graeme Lee who emerged victorious, clinching the gold medal by answering an impressive 12 out of 15 questions correctly. This was a fun and engaging way to reminisce about our achievements and connect over shared memories.

In the spirit of physical fitness and friendly competition, we also held a unique event where participants ran in front of our new Vehicle Activated Speed Sign (VASS) to see who could run the fastest. Our VASS technology, which typically alerts drivers to their speed, was repurposed for the day to measure the speed of our runners.

With excitement in the air, our team members took turns sprinting in front of the sign. It was a great way to get everyone moving and have some fun. Marketing Executive Ben Ashman claimed the title of the fastest runner, clocking an impressive 20 mph. The event was not only a test of speed but also a great way to encourage physical activity and camaraderie among our team.
