Colour Mobile Variable message signs were out and about at the Showman’s Show 20th -21st Oct 2010 with Amber Langis part of the Martins group.
It was great to show of our new products to market and especially showing the visual impact that colour variable message signs have compared to the variable signs on offer at the moment.
The feedback that was generated from the show was great and it proved that there is a definite place for the 4 colour displays within the event and festival industry.
Please take time to have a look at our gallery to see our signs in action out and about.

… is the only outdoor show of its kind in the UK. The first Showman’s Show was held in 1984 at the Newark Showground, with only 80 or so exhibitors. Until 1989 the show was held every two years but due to demand, from exhibitors and show visitors alike, the then Lance Publications made the decision to hold the event annually. Initially it moved around the country but eventually settled at the Newbury Showground, which has been its home for the last 15 years. Today the show attracts nearly 5,000 visitors over two days and has in excess of 350 exhibitors, who show the most sophisticated structures, equipment and entertainment demanded by the event industry at large.
Colour Mobile Variable message signs had the pleasure of advertising for the event and event sponsors at the VEBT Bournemouth Volleyball Finals at the end of August 2010. It was a challenge siting the sign as the centre court was a 100m plus from the nearest entry point to the beach.
However we made it and a special thanks goes to the RNLI Lifeguards who help to remove the sign on the final day.

A variable- (also changeable-, electronic-, or dynamic-) message sign, often abbreviated VMS, CMS, or DMS, and in the UK known as a matrix sign, is an electronic traffic sign often used on roadways to give motorists and pedestrians information about special events. Such signs warn of traffic congestion, accidents, incidents, roadwork zones, or speed limits on a specific highway segment. In urban areas, VMS are used within parking guidance and information systems to guide drivers to available car parking spaces. They may also ask vehicles to take alternative routes, limit travel speed, warn of duration and location of the incidents or just inform of the traffic conditions.
A complete message on a panel generally includes a problem statement indicating incident, roadwork, stalled vehicle etc; a location statement indicating where the incident is located; an effect statement indicating lane closure, delay, etc and an action statement giving suggestion what to do traffic conditions ahead.
In some places, VMSes are set up with permanent, semi-static displays indicating predicted travel times to important traffic destinations such as major cities or interchanges along the route of a motorway.
Typical messages provide the following information:
The information comes from a variety of traffic monitoring and surveillance systems. It is expected that by providing real-time information on special events on the oncoming road, VMS can improve vehicles’ route selection, reduce travel time, mitigate the severity and duration of incidents and improve the performance of the transportation network.
We were delighted to be a part of the Chatsworth Country Fair this year with 4 of our Variable Message Signs.
The Chatsworth Country fair was extended by a day this year to become a 3 day country fair and the visitors didn’t disappoint.
We had 4 Variable Message Signs altogether around the showground, displaying various and important messages to visitors throughout the weekend. Below are a few pictures of the signs at work.
