MVIS debuts at the Emergency Services

MVIS are proud to announce that we will be joining over 500 exhibitors at the Emergency Services & Emergency Tech Show at the NEC in Birmingham on 19th & 20th September.

10,000+ ground-breaking products are exhibited each year and our products are being added to the long list of innovations to be showcased.

Over the 2 days, exhibitors will be presenting their products and giving hands-on demonstrations to delegates, all in the interest of helping the emergency services, save more lives. Delegates will have the chance to source new equipment along with technology and training, discover new solutions to operational issues and network with colleagues as well as create new contacts in the industry.

MVIS will be at the show for the first time with our dedicated and friendly team on hand to showcase our latest solutions, perfect for the Blue Light sector.

We are introducing our brand-new fire sign, a product that can assess its environment and alert people to the risk of fire in the area.

MVIS and the Ashgate High Peak Trail.

On the 30th of April, Ashgate Hospice hosted their annual “High Peak Trail 17 Mile Sponsored Walk”, raising vital funds for the hospice.

Over the past 2 years MVIS has sponsored the walk by supplying VMS prior to the event, allowing promotion to a wider audience and also on the day to give supportive messages to the walkers undertaking the 17 miles.

Participants of the walk and the team at MVIS has helped to raise over £30,000 for the hospice.

MVIS are proud to sponsor events the Ashgate team run as they work tirelessly to give end of life care to those who need it.

David Storer at Ashgate Hospice said:

“MVIS are a pleasure to work with. They are always on hand to provide support across all of our fundraising events and go above and beyond to offer solutions that enhance our reach and help us to promote our brand across the region.

Anne and the team have provided VMS for multiple events.  The VMS have really helped to raise the awareness of Ashgate Hospice and the vital end of life care that we provide across North Derbyshire. Huge thanks to MVIS from all of us at Ashgate Hospice!”

MVIS sponsors the Ashgate High Peak Trail.

For the past 2 years MVIS has sponsored the High Peak Trail. An event taking place this year on the 12th of March, the walk takes place through our Derbyshire countryside and will follow the former Cromford and High Peak Railway. The walk is a scenic experience for all the family to enjoy.

This year, Ashgate has introduced two new routes. One that is a family friendly 3.5 miles, something that you can bring children on so you can have a day spent with family traversing the ever-stunning route, another route is the 11 mile walk and the final walk the full 17 miles. Participants meet at Cromford Meadows before being transported to the starting line.

We had the opportunity to see the trail on which walkers will be undertaking over the weekend in March.

MVIS are proud to sponsor the team over at Ashgate Hospice and are glad to always be there to assist with their events. As a company we appreciate their work and are admirable of the amount of time, effort and inclusivity they present when holding events such as the Sparkle walk or the High Peak Trail. As a company it is about teamwork and raising money for the people they look after. While also showing a strong love for the community and the county that surround their wonderful hospice.

MVIS are always proud to say that as a company we support Ashgate Hospice. Our partnership started in 2021 and since then we have managed to maintain a consistent string of charity work, participating in the Sparkle Walk to running a Bake-Off competition in aid of Ashgate Hospice.

Ashgate Hospice is a charity dedicated to providing palliative and end-of-life care, they look after those that live with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer and end-stage heart, kidney, and lung diseases. They have worked for years to ensure patients are well informed, supported and pain free.

MVIS works with Ashgate Hospice as a local charity that offers so much to local people.  The charity always takes perfect care of those who are nearing the end of their life and ensures that loved ones get to spend as much time with them, be it in the hospice or their own homes, making the last few days as comfortable and calm as possible in this type of situation. They also go on to work hard to look after families that are in grief and have lost loved ones.

MVIS visited the hospice in recent weeks and was taken on a tour around Ashgate, this benefitted our team as we could see the impact that they have on the local community, it was also beneficial for our team to see the impact us as a company have on them as a charitable organisation.

David Storer- Ashgate Hospice Events Organiser: “M-VIS are a pleasure to work with. They are always on hand to provide support across all of our fundraising events and go above and beyond to offer solutions that enhance our reach and help us to promote our brand across the region.

Anne and the team have provided VMS’s for multiple events and appeals that have really helped to raise the awareness of Ashgate Hospice and the vital end of life care that we provide across North Derbyshire. Huge thanks to M-VIS from all of us at Ashgate Hospice!”

Tree-mendous Charity Work Continues

After spending the festive period lighting up your homes and housing Santa’s gifts to you, Christmas Trees are left next to the dust bin to decompose and hurt the environment. Thanks to the team at Ashgate Hospice, they have found an innovative way to raise money for the Hospice as well as using your Christmas Trees to help the environment surrounding them. The trees are collected by volunteers and given to local farmers so they can be chipped and recycled.

A handful of the local communities pay £15 for volunteers to collect their trees, then Ashgate plan routes accordingly and send truly generous people to ensure these trees get to the farm. The same farm that will chip the trees and convert them into biomass fuel.

Last week, MVIS team members Jon Larkins and Ben Ashman took the service van and collected trees in and around Matlock. Together, they collected 29 trees helping the team to raise the equivalent of over £400 in tree collections.

This is not the first time MVIS have volunteered their time to help this ingenious idea. MVIS have worked with Ashgate for over a year now and always like to find new ground-breaking ways to help the charity from taking part in the Sparkle Walk to Car-Boot Sales.

When all the trees are collected, they are converted into biomass fuel, a known way of making use of Christmas Trees after spending the festive period making your house look bright and vibrant for the big day. Using photosynthesis trees use carbon dioxide to help them grow and flourish, but when the trees die and begin to rot, they release carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere as well as trace amounts of methane, a gas 21 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Biomass as a source of energy means that gas is used as energy as opposed to being lost to nature.

Ashgate Hospice have since announced that this year’s scheme has been the most successful to date and has raised a staggering £12,203.75. This money will help ensure that they can continue to provide specialist care to patients and their families across North Derbyshire. Well done to everyone who took part!

Highways UK 2022 Review

With this year’s Highways UK coming to an end, we’re reflecting on a fantastic few days at The NEC in Birmingham.

Last year’s Highways UK was a great success, so we were very excited to exhibit this year and make it even better. A strong MVIS team, featuring familiar and new faces, was out in force at the event.

We recently celebrated our 10 year anniversary and so the theme for this year was ‘A Decade of Driving Innovation’. We had a lot of our latest innovations on show, with the highlight being our new Integrated Environmental Decibal Data that was captured live at the event.

Like last year, the event was another great success, with us receiving a lot of compliments about our stand. We had five staff work the stand this year, including our newest team member, Ben Kettell, who attended his first trade show and Highways UK event for the company.

Marketing Manager, Ben Kettell commented, “It was great to attend Highways UK for the first time and represent MVIS. The stand looked fantastic and it was great to meet so many friendly faces from the industry. It has been a very rewarding experience that has helped me get to know our customers better and it filled me with pride seeing the preparations the Marketing team has made contribute to the success of the event.”

Amongst some of the materials prepared for the show, we had brand new merchandise bags to hand out with branded air fresheners and ice scrapers inside. We also had our ‘VMS Special Offer’ flyers available to take away as part of our latest campaign.

We also gave our product specification sheets a fresh new look and put them all together in a brochure, which could be downloaded by scanning a QR code. If you didn’t manage to catch us at Highways UK or if you’d just like to learn more about products, you can download our catalog, here

Anne Ashman, UK Group Commercial and Operations Director added, “Highways UK is the biggest event of the year for us and the industry, so it was great to make such a good impression with our stand. Even though this year we focused on innovation, we wanted to continue our efforts to be more environmentally responsible. By creating a product catalog and encouraging visitors to scan a QR instead, we ended up printing a lot less product sheets out and on fewer pieces of paper. We are already looking forward to next year and I’m excited about what ideas our Marketing team will come up with.”

The whole MVIS Highways UK 2022 team wanted to wish everyone who stopped by a big thank you. It was a pleasure catching up and meeting with so many faces. We look forward to seeing you all next year!

A Decade of Driving Innovation on display at Highways UK

On November 2nd and 3rd at the NEC Birmingham, at Highways UK 2022, MVIS looks forward to welcoming visitors to stand H16 to celebrate a decade of driving innovation, reinforce the company’s long-standing sustainable focus as well as discussing its ever-increasing range of value adding solutions.

The company has always held innovation, sustainability and service at its core of values, and at Highways UK 2022 these three key pillars of MVIS will be on display for the sector to see.

A Decade of Driving Innovation…

An MVIS company staple is its attitude towards innovation; never resting on its laurels and continually investing in its research & development programme to continue to better itself for the benefit of its customers.

“That means we are constantly moving forward and fulfilling required gaps in the market with our bespoke products and R&D department,” says Graeme Lee, MVIS’ Sales Director.

“We’re never willing to accept stagnation.” Graeme continued. “We place great pride and great emphasis on being at the forefront of technologies within our field, and it’s a stance that hasn’t wavered across the last 10 years. At Highways UK, we’re looking forward to putting our innovation ethos in the spotlight.”

Sustainable Thinking

MVIS has a long-standing sustainable commitment and is constantly searching for ways to reduce its environmental footprint. MVIS’ products are designed to be energy efficient, and the company encourages its employees to operate with sustainability in mind.

MVIS are proud to be members of both Greener Highways and the Carbon Club, and the company puts its money where its mouth is when it comes to sustainability.

“It’s been clear there’s been a major shift over the last few years towards sustainability in the highways sector and that’s absolutely fantastic – but it’s not a recent thing for us.” Said Anne Ashman, Group Commercial & Operations Director.

“Recently, we made the switch from product sheets to QR codes to showcase our product information when at events and exhibitions. So, at Highways UK 2022, we’ll be asking people to scan rather than handing out reams of paper across the 2 days.”

Adding Value

When you hire VMS from MVIS, you don’t just get the best kit for getting your message across. And with new, improved pricing, there is no better time to put VMS to the test.

Providing a Platinum level of service is a further MVIS ethos, and the company will display all its added value solutions at Highways UK 2022.

From environmental sensors to radar, data collection to message programming, as well as 24/7 support and battery changes, the MVIS service doesn’t simply stop at VMS unit hire.

Anne signed off before the show by saying:

“We’re looking forward to the conversations Highways UK provides the platform for. It’s such a well-attended event and we’re excited to share everything we have to offer.”

Visit us at Stand H16 at Highways UK

We can’t wait to exhibit at Highways UK and we’re now only one week away. Highways UK is the sector’s must-attend event, as it offers companies the opportunity to showcase their latest products or solutions, as well as explore other innovations in the market, and network with others in the industry.

If you are attending, make sure that you stop by Stand H16 to say hello to our friendly team and ask them any questions you may have. Our Managing Director, Pat Musgrave, will be attending and the rest of the team will be wearing a different colour polo shirt in relation to the 5 colours in our logo.

So, let’s meet the members of the MVIS team who will be attending and working the stand this year.

As some of our team members will be attending Highways UK for the first time this year, Anne’s presence will give them the opportunity to meet familiar faces in the industry.

Ben Kettell –  Marketing Manager

Tom has been with the group since 2014, making him a highly experienced and knowledgeable member of the team. He also has some Highways UK experience, having attended last year for the first time.

Tom’s knowledge and technical capability make him a fantastic team member to chat with for anyone who has any technical questions about our products.

Graeme Lee – Sales Director

Graeme is the second longest-serving member of the team, joining the group in 2012. Since then, he has helped to build our customer base and enforce the high standards we set for ourselves by leading by example.

Highly skilled in sales, networking and maintaining relationships, Graeme is well respected within the industry which makes his presence at Highways UK very important for us.

Supporting World Mental Health Day 2022

Here at MVIS and Bartco UK, we take mental health very seriously. As a socially responsible employer, we feel it is important to focus on mental health every day and not just today. Working in an industry that suffers from high suicide rates, it is of vital importance that we stay one step ahead when it comes to mental health.

In the UK, suicide claims an alarming number of lives each year, with many of those in the Highways and Construction industries. As safety is one of the core foundations at MVIS in addition to mental health, there is no denying the obligation we have in raising awareness of this to help make the industry safer for everyone.

Last year for World Mental Health Day, we supported YoungMinds, the mental health charity for young people and participated in their #HellowYellow campaign by donating money and wearing a hi-vis or yellow clothing.

In support of World Mental Health Day this year, we got all our staff together for some cake and a chat to help encourage the conversation around mental health. The theme for this year is to make mental health and wellbeing a priority, which is something that we have been working to achieve for many years now.

Over the years, we have taken a number of steps to safeguard the wellbeing and mental health of our team. One of the things we’ve done to support our team is giving them access to 3 qualified mental health first aiders, 2 female and 1 male. Our mental health first aiders are Rebecca Prince, Bartco UK’s Purchasing & Stock Control Supervisor, Jon Larkins, our North Delivery Supervisor and the UK Group Commercial and Operations Director for both MVIS and Bartco UK, Anne Ashman

One of our more recent developments is providing our team with access to the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), an anonymous advice and support service offered by Peninsula. If you feel that you may need advice or support on your mental health, some helpful links will be included below.

Anne Ashman, UK Group Commercial and Operations Director comments, “The mental health of our team is one of our top priorities and today was a great opportunity for them to have a break and spend some time together. Here at MVIS and Bartco UK, we have been working with our staff for a long time now on ways we can best safeguard their mental health and wellbeing, which has helped us build the support system we have in place today.”

MVIS Delivers Gold at the London 2012 Olympics

Our journey as a company began in June 2012 with the London Olympics, which required 177 mobile variable message signs (VMS) to be deployed and managed throughout London. Shortly after this in August 2012 came the Paralympics of a similar scale, forcing MVIS into delivering the platinum level service that we are known for today.

Transport for London (TfL) required the temporary deployment of an extensive network of VMS to be positioned along the Olympic Route Network, in order to provide clear and distinguishable route instructions to road users and help athletes get to their destination in a timely manner.

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games presented TfL with the challenge of creating a road traffic system that would facilitate not only the seamlessly smooth running of both events but also the efficient flow of non-event traffic. TfL appointed MVIS to supply, install and support an incredible 177 signs in what was believed to be the largest single deployment of solar powered mobile VMS in the world at the time.

With the help of our sister company and manufacturer Bartco, all 177 units were able to be built and deployed onto the streets of London ready for the start of the games. Taking on a project of this size so early on in our lifespan was not without its challenges, though. A 10,000 mile supply chain length, weather problems, port closures, flight delays and customs issues all had to be overcome in order for the signs to get into the UK on time.

Since then, we have only expanded and grown from strength to strength. This has resulted in MVIS becoming a trusted asset in the industry with a focus on the values of efficiency, excellent service and trust with our customers.

In 2012, we had a fleet of only 8 x Bartco 5 colour VMS and now boast the UK’s largest fleet of over 600 VMS that have been built and maintained by our staff. Better yet, we are still working in multiple large schemes across the UK for happy clients who choose MVIS to deliver.

Supporting Sparkle Night Walk 2022

On Saturday 9th July, thousands from North Derbyshire and the surrounding areas came together to walk 10km and raise vital funds for Ashgate Hospice in the Sparkle Night Walk 2022.

Ashgate Hospice is a local charity based in Chesterfield that we have worked with and supported extensively in recent years. They provide end-of-life care, free of charge to patients with a life-limiting illness and their families across North Derbyshire. They rely on the generosity of our community and businesses like us to raise millions of pounds each year to help fund their specialist and brilliant care.

Last year, we supported the 2021 Sparkle Walk and we are proud to have done the same this year by deploying our signs in the lead-up to the event and on the night. Due to the scale of the annual Sparkle Walk, several main roads around the area are required to close so it is important to provide warnings in advance to help reduce risk.

In the last financial year, we raised an amazing £13,733.38 for Ashgate Hospice by sponsoring their High Peak Trail Walk, as well as other fundraising initiatives like an office bake off and their Treecycle initiative, in which several of our staff volunteered to help collect Christmas trees.

Whilst the amount raised for this year’s Sparkle Walk is yet to be determined, it is believed to be in the region of around £200,000. Every penny raised will go towards their care and helping nurses be there for families throughout Derbyshire who desperately need them.

Rachel Broughton from Ashgate Hospice comments, “I’d like to thank MVIS for providing the road signs on the night and in the lead up to the event. You helped us not only put on an enjoyable and safe event but also saved us money which can now be redirected to help our nurses to provide their crucial care through all hours of the day and night to patients and their loved ones and for this, we are incredibly grateful.”

Events Management

How can we assist with Events Management?

Event Signage Hire & Sale, Traffic Management and Safety & Security Solutions.

MVIS products are used up and down the country. Bringing our unique and specialist range of ITS solutions to events management and event traffic management companies nationwide.

Working well together to provide cost-effective and environmentally friendly solutions that don’t require any civils, external power or communications sources. Our products have been tried and tested at some of the biggest events in this country.

In this post, we will take a look at what makes MVIS and our solutions integral for managing your event; keeping drivers, pedestrians and visitors safe and informed.

Products & Solutions

VMS

Our range of portable VMS (Variable Message Signs) is ideal for event management applications. With a small and secure footprint, our temporary VMS products, in particular our VMS-A and our HD Compact VMS, are ideal for events, helping to keep space allocated appropriately for other important requirements venues may need.

One of the biggest advantages we have with our VMS is the fact that they are solar powered, offering a fully autonomous solar charging system that delivers a high quality, bright and low power consuming LED display that costs nothing to run in energy. The use of solar power makes this product environmentally friendly and reduces the need for messy and hazardous external cabling, making the units highly portable.

Many happy clients have used our VMS in the lead up to events, helping to advertise and warn drivers of the potential delays or congestion as a result of the event. A perfect ideal for both smaller and larger events, this useful solution helps to raise awareness of the event itself often to a highly targeted, highly relevant local audience as well as helping to mitigate risks of frustration or incidents, which is an advised action to take prior to an event that may be disruptive to local traffic.

Additionally, our VMS are easy to set up and operate, offering an event traffic management solution that is reliable under any British weather conditions and has the flexibility to display red, green, blue, white and amber colours. Supporting full graphics and pictograms, our VMS are great for traffic and crowd management use alike. For more specific graphic needs, we also offer our HD VMS-A, which features all the benefits of our standard VMS-A, plus a high definition 70 x 42-pixel dual colour matrix, allowing for the display of more intricate images than our standard model.

However, for needs where space may be limited, MVIS also offer an HD VMS that is much smaller than even the VMS-A. The HD Compact VMS delivers an HD red and white dual colour display with a small footprint and adjustable height. As if this solution wasn’t versatile enough, its power supply can be drawn from the battery, solar or mains, making it ideal for fixed, permanent applications as well as temporary ones. This VMS unit is often the message sign of choice for small events and speed reactive messages due to its low power consumption, versatility and portability.

Solar Intelligent Platform (Solar IP)

Our Solar IP is available for hire along with a wide range of our products, offering a flexible and responsive approach to event traffic management requirements. As a simple and cost-effective power solution, deployment of the Solar IP delivers an integrated intelligent transport system that meets specific needs for any combination of our ANPR, CCTV or radar. Including a 12V, 24V or 48V battery, our Solar IP boasts the latest solar charging system and is not dependent on an external energy supply, making it environmentally friendly.

Serving as one of our most innovative and ground-breaking products, the Solar IP is an ideal power source for temporary ITS solutions that have proven their value to countless numbers of happy clients.

Portable CCTV

Our trailer mounted Portable Compact CCTV units come complete with our Solar IP, making this product environmentally friendly as well as portable and versatile. Ideal for event management applications, this product excels where monitoring and safety are of critical importance. Ideal for festivals, stadium events, and country shows, our Portable CCTV provides you with fast, high impact surveillance that helps to ensure that event managers respond to event changes in an instant.

This solar powered CCTV solution features Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) and incorporates the latest video technology that delivers excellent frame rates, even in poor signal areas. With a flat, toughened glass window, our easy to operate portable CCTV is protected to IP67, making it reliable under all conditions.

CCTV VMS

MVIS’ Portable CCTV VMS Solution discreetly integrates a CCTV camera with our VMS-A, allowing you to have eyes on the ground without having to be physically present on-site, creating a surveillance and feedback solution that can be used to monitor and respond to situations quickly. It features a 1080p full HD, starlight night vision, and IP65 weatherproof camera.

Integrating CCTV with our VMS allows you to have eyes on the ground without having to be physically present. The visible presence of CCTV is well known to influence behaviour and help enforce rules. The combination of these technologies makes the Portable CCTV VMS Solution ideal for security, queue management, venue safety and wayfinding.

Compact Environmental Sensor

Our Compact Environmental Sensor integrates our solar powered ‘Compact’ base with an ITS Environmental Sensor, offering clients the ability to monitor the external environment, producing a wide range of air pollution data that can be used to inform and direct on issues of air pollution safety.

This solution is a low-cost system that offers the ability to build a high-density ambient air quality monitoring network that records data in real-time. With low power demands, this unit can be powered by our ‘Compact’ solar powered base for air quality monitoring in applications where space is limited.

Having an air quality sensor to monitor emissions is ideal for the events industry as it can help event management companies choose the right location for their event and provide additional health and safety to staff and event-goers. They can also measure the environmental impact of an event and use that data in any way they see fit. This data could highlight the areas that need improvement, which could help to reduce emissions for future events.

Environmental Sensor

The ITS Integrated Environmental Sensor can be combined with any of our ITS solutions to offer clients the ability to monitor the external environment, producing a wide range of air pollution data that can be used to inform and direct on issues of air pollution safety. This solution is a low-cost system that offers the ability to build a high-density ambient air quality monitoring network that records data in real-time.

Integrating this sensor with any of our ITS solutions allows us to offer clients effective, multi-functional units that bring not just the benefits of the sensors themselves to portable applications, but also all the functionality of the products they are integrated with.

Highways UK 2021 Review

Last year, due to the COVID19 pandemic, Highways UK was forced to move to an exclusively online platform, preventing the usual face to face networking that we have all become accustomed to at trade shows.

As the first year back at face to face events, Highways UK 2021 took off with a fantastic start. The MVIS team were out in full force with new and familiar faces at the event, offering experience to new members of the team in a true Highways UK way.

The event was a great success, with many people dropping by the stand to enquire about our solutions and say hi to our friendly team both in person and via the Swapcard app for the event. For the first time, Highways UK this year combined the best of the physical event and the digital platform we were introduced to last year due to the pandemic.

But it wasn’t just Highways UK who were innovating this year.

This year we also trialed a new QR code system that helped to reduce the number of physical product information packs we hand out, instead sending customers a convenient email with the product sheets attached upon scanning a QR code and inputting their email address.

We also saw a record number of merchandise bags handed out this year, with hundreds of people walking around the NEC over the 2-day event proudly displaying an MVIS bag for life, filled with helpful and environmentally friendly goodies that people couldn’t wait to get their hands on.

Anne Ashman, UK Group Commercial and Operations Director commented, “Highways UK is the biggest trade show of the year and after the restrictions we all faced last year, it’s so great to see everyone out in force this year. This has been one of the busiest trade shows we’ve ever seen and we are very pleased to have been a part of it. We are looking forward to next year and hope to see just as many faces at the event in 2022, which we have already booked in a similar location!”

Mark Ashbee, London Depot Manager added, “Having helped set up for many events during my time at MVIS, it’s been fantastic to see the other side of things and attend this year in my new role as London Depot Manager. It’s been a very different kind of work to what I am used to, but it’s been a rewarding experience that has helped me get to know our customers better, as well as learn more about what the office team have to do to make these events a success.”

The whole MVIS Highways UK 2021 team wanted to wish everyone who stopped by a big thank you. We look forward to seeing you all next year!
