New look MVIS website

MVIS is delighted to announce we’ve completely overhauled, refreshed and updated our website to make it easier for customers and partners to get the information they need.

The old site served us well for many years but at MVIS we’re always moving forwards and it no longer reflected the high degree of innovation our products and solutions offer nor the passion for customer service on which we’ve built our business.

Designed and developed with our Marketing Partners at FIG, the new site is cleaner, bolder, easier to navigate and will get you to where you want to be in fewer clicks.

We’ve fine-tuned our logo to look more progressive and turned up the brightness across our branding. The overall website design (which has significantly less black!) now reflects the positivity and determination with which we approach every project we are involved in and our overarching strategy to help making the UK’s roads and major events run as smoothly and safely as possible.

Said FIG designer Emma Dixon:

FIG has worked with MVIS for many years watching as it’s grown into a leading UK supplier – so we wanted the new site to do it justice. The use of bold colours, videos, intuitive navigation and the increased emphasis on the service MVIS provides, really differentiates it from its competitors.”

We really hope you’ll find our new site interesting, easier to use and more relevant to your needs.

We’d really love to know what you think. Take a look at the new site at www.m-vis.co.uk and email your comments to sales@m-vis.co.uk.

MVIS Traffex success

Easter or not, at MVIS we’ve been busy following up our success at Traffex 2017, Europe’s largest dedicated road, traffic, parking and transport event.

We exhibited in partnership with sister company Bartco UK – the only UK manufacturer of the innovative mobile and solar powered monitoring and visual information equipment we supply for hire throughout the UK.

Held over three days at the beginning of April, Traffex was attended by 350 exhibitors and more than 10,000 industry professionals and was the ideal place to promote our market-leading products and solutions including mobile variable message signs, Solar Intelligent Platform (IP) and brand new innovation the Tom-Tom Journey Time Solution.

Meanwhile, Bartco UK took the opportunity to launch its first ever mobile variable message sign (VMS) and Traffic Light Integrated Solution. Built around the HD Quattro which can communicate small amounts of information, it’s ideal for temporary works.

The HD Quattro is available for hire from MVIS and was judged one of the winners of the Traffex Innovation Trail by an independent panel.

We are also thrilled to announce the lucky winner of our Traffex competition. Congratulations to Pat Kane of Morrison Utility Services who won a magnum of champagne. We hope you enjoyed it!

Meet Jay Bailey

As one of MVIS’ most recent team members, Jay has quickly made himself an indispensable part of the team.

How long have you been with MVIS?
I joined MVIS on 1st March, 2017.

Job role:
I work as a Delivery and Maintenance Operative which sees me go out and about to various locations to deliver, set up and fix our range of traffic management products.

Recent projects:
Being at MVIS just over a month, I have quickly picked up the mechanisms and workings of our VMS products. I am especially proud of the fact that I am able to take apart and put together a VMS without hesitation.

How did you get into the industry:
My friend Mark Ashbee is the reason I work in the industry. A job opportunity arose which he told me about, and I knew how much he enjoyed working for MVIS, I jumped at the chance to become part of the team.

Most fulfilling part of your role:
The most fulfilling part of my role is how we all work together as a team to give excellent customer service. I thrive off the day-to-day pressures and no two days are ever the same.

More about me:
I am really interested in how things work. The maintenance side of the job comes naturally giving my previous experience as a mechanic. Using solar power for energy is a big interest of mine, so I especially love working with MVIS’ solar powered products.

Tom Berry: Apprentice

As one of our newest recruit, Tom has already proved himself to be one of the team by pitching in with any task we throw at him, and impressing clients at our latest exhibition.

How long have you been with MVIS?
I’ve worked for MVIS since February 2017.

Job role:
As an Admin and Sales Apprentice my role is very varied. My role includes taking phone calls from customers who want a quotation putting together or answering any questions about our traffic and events management products. I also help Rebecca Saint with invoicing and billing customers along with other duties.

Recent projects:
I had the chance to go to Traffex 2017 which is a trade show for the traffic management industry where I enjoyed getting to meet our partner companies and customers in person. This also allowed me to gain a better knowledge of the traffic management industry as a whole.

How did you get into the industry:
I was looking for an apprenticeship after I left school and read the job description which sounded interesting so I decided to apply.

Most fulfilling part of your role:
The most fulfilling part of my role has to be when a job goes smoothly and the customer is pleased with the level of service we have provided.

More about me:
Outside of work, I enjoy socialising with friends and I try to keep fit by running.

Matt Felce: Technical Manager

With a number of years of experience under his belt, Matt is our ‘go to’ person when we have a question. What he doesn’t know about traffic management solutions isn’t worth knowing.

What’s it like to work at MVIS?
Working at MVIS is very rewarding. I have seen the company grow enormously in the three years that I have been here from a VMS supplier to the “go to” company for temporary ITS solutions.

What’s been the best MVIS projects you’ve worked on to date and why?
They are all rewarding in their own way. From the safety solutions we have developed along with Intellicone to the manufacture of our own trailers in the UK.

How are you finding day-to-day life at MVIS?
It’s great to work with such a close knit team who all work tirelessly with a common goal of making MVIS the biggest and best VMS and portable ITS supplier in the UK.

What recent projects have you worked on?
We have just deployed eight signs around a bridge in London that are automatically activated when the bridge is raised with the aim of lowering vehicle pollution.

What is the most fulfilling part of your role?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is the praise we receive from our customers and seeing the company grow from strength to strength.

What’s an average day for you?
I am very fortunate in that I don’t have an average day. It can involve anything from meeting with customers discussing designing a new solution to solve their problems to going to awards dinners for our innovation and everything in between.

Sponsoring spells success for MVIS

As a company, MVIS has always supported local businesses and causes close to our hearts, and we’re always keen to help out where we can.

We recently donated the use of four variable message signs plus a van and driver to a local initiative to publicise the local hospital, the Whitworth Hospital which was due to have a vital ward closed. The signs were used to advertise the event and advise road users of the protest march, and the vehicle was used to transport a hospital bed to around the local area to advertise our plight.

We are also keen to show our support for a number of local sports teams and athletes, and as such, are the current sponsors of Matlock Town FC. Fans of the Gladiators will have noticed our logo on the front of their shirts, and we’re also happy to have donated a VMSC unit which is situated in the ground, as well as a fixed VMSA unit on the outside of the ground, used to send messages of support to the team, as well as display useful match day information to fans from all sides.

Alongside sponsoring Matlock Town FC, MVIS are proud to sponsor boxing athlete Karl ‘Tinker’ Johnston of Matlock’s Original Jesters club. Karl, a dedicated fighter, who fought his way to become the new professional European K1 Champion back in 2016, is sponsored and represented by MVIS on all of his training kit. Karl will be defending his title on the 1st April 2017, MVIS and our sister company Bartco UK have sponsored him for this event.

Back in 2015, we were also named the sponsor of the World Championship race team, Mickel Motorsport. Each year, MVIS supplies high visibility solar powered variable message signs (VMS) to the UK race paddocks where the Mickel Motorsport team will complete, as well as having MVIS branding on their vehicles. The team at MVIS are delighted to sponsor the 2015 UK Legends National Champions, and thoroughly enjoy attending races to offer continued support to the Mickel team.

Crown Green Bowling player, Craig Shore is also another sporting star we are proud to offer continued support too. The team here at MVIS wish Craig all the best in the upcoming bowling season.

Department for Transport announces 1.2bn funding

It was announced recently that there will be over £1.2bn of funding for English local authority roads in 2017/18. Including individual councils’ share of the pothole fund, £185m of new funding was announced in the Autumn Statement and the Local Highways Maintenance Funding Needs Element to help improve the UK’s road network.

The £1.2bn for the 2017 to 2018 financial year for local highway authorities outside London, consists of:

  • £210m from the £1.3bn National Productivity Investment Fund (NPIF) announced in the Autumn Statement, with £185m to improve local highways and public transport networks and £25m to help tackle some of the most dangerous council A roads
  • £801m Local Highways Maintenance Funding Needs Element
  • £70m to be shared across local highway authorities from the Pothole Action Fund
  • £75m from the Highways Maintenance Challenge Fund, with local highway authorities invited to compete for funding to help repair and maintain local highway infrastructure, such as bridges, lighting and rural roads
  • £75m from the Highways Maintenance Incentive Element, which invites councils to complete a self-assessment questionnaire “in order to reward those who demonstrate they truly understand the value of their asset”.

The Pothole Action Fund allocated totals £250 million which is estimated to be enough to repair on average over 4.7 million potholes, or stop them forming in the first place.

During this time, it is estimated that the ongoing road maintenance and improvements will cause lengthy queues and obstruction on the roads. MVIS offers a number of traffic management solutions which can be hired to allow your road work project to run smoothly, encourage safer and more environmentally friendly driving habits, and help prevent complaints from motorists by keeping them well informed of their approximate travel times.

This includes CCTV, HD Data Collection Radar, ANPR, VMS and Journey Time Solutions which are mounted on solar powered platforms and can be deployed as multiple units on a single platform or individually as required.

At MVIS we work closely with our customers and partners and we’re dedicated to producing the best product to match your needs. Our five colour matrix VMS displays are ideal for traffic management and accident information, and help keep motorists well informed.

New partnership with Highways England

Mobile Visual Information Systems Ltd (MVIS) developed a temporary intelligent transport system (ITS) solution which receives DATEX II real time journey time data from Highways England’s National Traffic Operations Centre (NTOC), collected from in-vehicle sensors.

The data is used to calculate journey times from the locations of MVIS’ 11 portable Bartco UK VMS-C variable message signs (VMS) along the MSM roadworks to the end of the affected stretch of motorway. The times are uploaded onto the desired portable VMS every five minutes.

Configurable safeguards ensure that journey times computed do not fall outside the range made feasible by current speed limits and that they do not conflict with messages on permanent VMS.  The automated VMS messages may be manually overridden in the event of a network incident.

Said MVIS’ technical manager, Matt Felce:

“MVIS is an innovative firm, and so was pleased to have the opportunity to work in partnership with Highways England to develop the first solution enabling real-time journey time information from NTOC to be displayed on portable VMS.”

MVIS works in partnership with other leading providers to create bespoke temporary ITS solutions for traffic management organisations to help the road network to operate efficiently and safely.

Its solar powered solutions incorporate monitoring and visual information equipment:  VMS, ANPR and CCTV cameras, radar and Intellicone contactless sensor technology.  MVIS’ VMS signs are manufactured in the UK by Bartco UK.

MVIS’ products are available nationwide via a network of over 20 depots.

How to lower pollution with MVIS’s Auto Detect

It was reported recently that London reached its annual limit for air pollution just five days into the new year.

And with the RAC Foundation estimating more than 43 million drivers on the roads by 2034, it can only mean bigger traffic jams, longer journey times and even more air pollution.

So how can we prevent this?

Motorists themselves can adopt certain habits when driving to help reduce emissions, such as keeping the vehicle in tip-top shape, removing excess cargo and avoiding unnecessary idling. If you are going to be stopped for more than 10 seconds, it’s much more environment tally friendly to stop and restart your engine than to keep the vehicle running.

But what can we do to help reduce emissions in locations which we know will have a high volume of slow-moving traffic? Circumstances such as heavy road works, large sporting events or concerts can have a large amount of stop-start traffic, and so are in need of an effective solution to communicate with motorists to educate them on more environmentally friendly driving practices – the Auto Detect.

The Auto Detect is an innovative integrated solution available to hire from MVIS and combines variable message signs (VMS) with contactless sensor technology which can help make drivers more aware of their carbon footprint and drive more responsibly, therefore becoming more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.

The system pairs a series of VMS units with a master Intellicone Traffic Management Unit with a set of traffic lights. When the lights turn red, the VMS is wirelessly activated and instantly displays messages – pre-programmed by the user using our innovative Web Studio™ – to communicate with the stationary motorists. These messages can include facts about the levels of air pollution caused on UK roads as well as advice on how motorists can effectively lower their own emissions, such as turning off their engines when in stationary traffic queues.

If you would like to contact us regarding your road work project, please call 01629 580 570 or email sales@m-vis.co.uk

MVIS supports Nottingham County Council

The National Highways and Transport Network’s 2016 Public Satisfaction Survey, which received a record breaking response of nearly 100,000, recently announced that Nottingham City Council achieved the highest public satisfaction for highways and transport.

The city council came out on top with a satisfaction rating of 61.5%, after scoring 78.1% for local bus services, 77.5% for public transport information and 64.9% for traffic management.

As well as calculating satisfaction levels, the 2016 National Highways and Transport Network’s survey also collected respondent’s opinions on road issues they saw as most important. Each cited by 96%, were highway conditions and safer roads.

Other issues highlighted as important by respondents were reducing traffic (86%) and traffic pollution (85%). Only 45% expressed satisfaction on the issue of reducing traffic, and only 50% on the issue of traffic pollution.

MVIS have provided support over the last 3 years to Nottingham City Council during the tram redevelopment.

If your road work project requires help to reduce traffic levels to increase motorist’s satisfaction levels and awareness, contact the MVIS team who will be happy to offer you full support and flexibility to help you inform road users through five colour VMS.

No matter what or where your traffic management project is, MVIS provides innovative temporary Intelligent Transport System solutions which can help you to improve, monitor and control traffic queues.
