Transport For West Midlands

Our Business Development team recently had the pleasure of visiting the team at Transport for West Midlands for a tour of the Regional Transport Coordination Centre. This trip proved the ideal opportunity to learn just how the VMS bought from MVIS has been utilised, not only by Transport for West Midlands, but also by some of the local authority highways teams in the West Midlands, as TFWM collaborate with them in utilising the units to support network management in their areas. 

As a result of this great gesture, our original 10 colour VMS has been put to use for a range of projects across the West Midlands from major road works to events including:

• Sandwell – Old Viaduct & Horsley Heath cycle scheme
• Birmingham – Pride Event & Alum Rock Rd / Stratford Rd closure for major water works
• Dudley – Cycle Event, Halesowen Triathlon & multiple Metro & town centre works
• Solihull – M42 closures, A45 work & Bus priority works
• Coventry – Motorfest event, A45 new road layout / reinforcing restrictions

 “Thanks to the capabilities of the VMS, we have been able to support a large number of projects as well as using dynamic messages for incidents including closures on the M5 & A45 following collisions. In addition to these we have also put out Road Safety & Driver Awareness messages such as ‘Don’t Drink and Drive’ & ‘Junction Blocking Causes Delays’ 

 We are using the units to support partners network operations and alert customers out on the network of any disruption, and thanks to MVIS and their continued customer support, we can carry on doing so.”
